After plating the top level we have cantilevered over the edge with bricks, this has two purposes; to provide a cleaner look to the shelf beyond the bare wood, and also to hide the under shelf lighting from direct view.
In order to increase the display area even further we added a 330mm wide shelf around the top, this will form part of the transport system along with the many 'skyline' models we have to display.
The initial plates are installed on the top with holding bricks at each joint point, some workers seem to have congregated in the distance, perhaps there will be a story in the newsreel sometime soon.edit.
Let's face it, planets are never big enough. So, because Lego keep releasing new buildings (very inconsiderate of them!) we decided to tear down the old planet, increase the real estate by about 50%, then start the rebuild!.
Along with this was the decision to actively light every building and add a full set of street lighting.
As we add features the story will be in Planet Newsreel, the minutiae of each build, how we did the lighting, etc. will be posted under Engineering.
